The Romanian section of ANESC announces with great regret the passing of Professor Ion-Traian Ștefănescu (03.04.1942 – 13.03.2020).
Professor Ion-Traian Ştefănescu was a prodigious personality in the scientific field and one of the titans of the Romanian labor law, which he has served with high professionalism, impressive dedication, great insight and hard work for more than 5 decades. Author of numerous treaties, studies, monographs, comments and reviews, he has fulfilled his mission with passion, objectivity and responsibility, whatever the times and political order.
After he graduated the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest (as head of class for 1965 graduating year), Ion-Traian Ştefănescu received his PhD in Law in 1979 under the guidance of two other great names of labor law, the late professors Sanda Ghimpu and Leonid Miller. After graduating from university, he joined the teaching staff of the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest (1965-1989). He was a full professor at Law Department, Bucharest University of Economic Studies (1994-2011) and associate professor at “Nicolae Titulescu” University of Bucharest and “Titu Maiorescu” University of Bucharest (1994-2011). During his teaching activity, he guided and mentored many generations of lawyers, demanding rigor and instilling passion for their future work.
He has been awarded with numerous prizes over time for his prodigious activity (such as, “Simion Barnutiu” Award of the Romanian Academy, the “Mircea Manoilescu” Prize of the Union of Jurists of Romania). As a founding member of the Romanian section of ANESC, he lent his full support to the efforts exerted to create this section, honoring our network with his prestigious knowledge and his valuable advice.
